CAMPBELL NEWMAN MUST ACT ON DG EXPENSES

Media Release

Queensland Premier Campbell Newman must explain tonight’s revelations on the big spending habits of public service head Jon Grayson, Opposition Leader Annstacia Palaszczuk said today.
Ms Palaszcuk said that the arrogance of the LNP Government was now trickling down to Campbell Newman’s handpicked right-hand man who was installed as director general of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in March, 2012.
“For a director general to spend $14,000 on hospitality when 14,000 public servants have been sacked is outrageous,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“That’s extraordinary when families are struggling with the cost of living."
“Jon Grayson earns almost $700,000 a year and he sees fit to dip into the public purse for coffee and cake.
“This is outrageous and out of touch.”
Ms Palaszczuk said questions about why Queenslanders were picking up the bill for Jon Grayson to wine and dine interstate colleagues also needed explanation.
“Queenslanders are right to be outraged,” she said.
“Unemployment is the highest it’s been since the GFC, power prices are rising an average of $442 a year and Queenslanders are hurting."
“This kind of expenditure is wasteful, excessive and indulgent- especially at a time like this."
Ms Palaszczuk said the LNP had one rule for the Government and another for government workers.
“This is the same Government that banned coffee for public servants and surgeons,” she said.
“This is taxpayer money and it must be spent wisely.
“The Premier needs to take action."
“Jon Grayson is the head of the public service and is meant to set the example."
“Campbell Newman hasn’t taken action against Jon Grayson yet despite allegations of conflicts of interests raised as far back as March this year."
“Campbell must take action immediately.”
