In short:

Gaza was named the deadliest place in the world to work as a journalist, with 29 killed in the past year, according to a report on the dangers facing media globally by Reporters Without Borders.

More than 253 journalists and media workers have been killed since October 7, 2023, most by Israel, earning its military the label "security predators".

The report also highlighted other countries and regimes, including Russia and Myanmar, that detain journalists and suppress press freedom en masse.
