The Newman Government cuts Sports funding overall

A quote from the Courier-Mail, September 14

CUTS: The Newman Government has slashed $40 million from sport and recreation infrastructure programs over the next four years and handballed the responsibility for drug-testing services to the Commonwealth Government.
AUSTRALIA'S Olympic status could sink further after the Queensland Academy of Sport fell victim to the Newman Government's cost-cutting.”

and a Media Statement, September 29

Premier Campbell Newman and Sport and Recreation Minister Steve Dickson today launched the LNP's promised Get in the Game program, which received a $2 million dollar boost in the recent State Budget. Mr. Newman said the increase in funding to $18 million over three years delivered on his commitment to support sport and recreation at the grassroots level across Queensland.”

To me it just looks like a case of “rob Peter to pay Paul” and according to media reports, sports funding is being cut by $22 million dollars over the next three to four years by Mr. Newman, which ever way you look at it.
