More LNP Broken Promises As Qld Unemployment Rate Goes Up.

 Media Release.

THURSDAY 11 JULY 2013

Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Mulherin says the latest ABS unemployment figures show the Newman Government’s poor economic management has led to a soaring unemployment rate in Queensland.

“Queensland’s unemployment rate in June jumped from 5.9% to 6.4% seasonally adjusted — the highest jobless rate since October 2003 and even higher than the 6.2% peak reached during the global financial crisis,” Mr Mulherin said.

“These are shocking figures that are an indictment on the Newman Government’s economic management."

“Despite the Premier’s election promise to create jobs and have our state heading to a 4% jobless rate, Queensland is going backwards and there are now 13,700 fewer full time jobs than when the Newman Government came to power."

“Under the LNP, Queensland’s unemployment rate is now the highest in mainland Australia."

“Now the June unemployment rate has gone up from 5.9% to 6.4%. We saw 8,900 jobs lost in the month."

“Many Queenslanders are doing it tough in a job market that is struggling, not improving."

“After sacking 14,000 workers and slashing funding in the Budget, Mr Newman’s broken his promise to create jobs and its hurting Queensland’s economy.”
