Joe Hockey has again trashed a serious
national debate about renewable energy by reiterating his bizarre views
on the aesthetic values of wind turbines.
“As the industry is preparing for complete
decimation following the release of the Warburton Review, Joe Hockey
once again weighs in with his utterly ridiculous contribution that wind
turbines are ‘appalling’,” Shadow Minister for Climate Change Mark
Butler said."
“The Treasurer’s comments are the latest evidence the Abbott Government is looking to destroy the Renewable Energy Target."
“Tony Abbott is still sitting on the Warburton
Review which recommends scrapping or significantly winding back the RET,
despite the report showing that the RET will drive down electricity
prices in the long term,” Mr Butler said.
“Joe Hockey is effectively asking people to pay higher power prices because he doesn’t like the look of wind turbines.
"Australians clearly support renewable energy,
choosing lower power bills and cleaner energy and don’t seem too
bothered by the decorative values of wind turbines.”
“After Tony Abbott destroyed the political
consensus on the Renewable Energy Target and put jobs and investment at
risk, the last thing the sector needed was another self-centred rant
from the Treasurer."
“The industry needs certainty and it needs the
Coalition to revive the support for renewables that it took to the last
four elections,” Mr Butler said.
