A new exhibition is aiming to show the human effort behind Australia's work in Antarctica through objects from the National Antarctic Heritage Collection.

It features more than 200 objects and artefacts from over a century of Antarctic exploration, most of which are on display for the first time.

France has recorded 1,000 more daily deaths than expected during the worst three days of a record-breaking heatwave in Europe, according to the country's public health agency.

More than 150 million Europeans sweltered in "extreme heat", which scientists say has been the worst the continent has ever recorded.
