Opposition
Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says the Premier has an obligation to sort
out problems at the Regional Community Association Moreton Bay.
"He
should start by quizzing Communities Minister Tracy Davis on why she
has been so ineffective in monitoring the association's financial
health," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"Just days ago Ms Davis assured State Parliament that the RCMBA was fulfilling its role and delivering its services."
That was despite the Opposition raising concerns expressed to it about the viability of the association.
Now it has collapsed, so just how closely was the Minister keeping an eye on the association?
Ms
Palaszczuk said the Premier may have tried to distance himself from his
hand-picked former LNP MP Scott Driscoll, but he could not run away
from his responsibilities
to staff and clients of the RCAMB.
“He has been far too ‘hands off’ when it comes to anything linked to Mr Driscoll," she said.
That approach needs to end immediately because people’s livelihoods and futures are at stake.
On
Wednesday I expressed concern about suggestions staff may not be paid
and that their superannuation entitlements may not be met.
The Premier needs to immediately step in and sort out the situation so staff have some certainty about their futures.
“The
Premier also needs to make sure that anyone responsible for any
financial wrongdoing that may have caused the RCMBA’s precarious
financial position is brought to account," she said.
