ANOTHER SHAKY PROMISE BASED ON IFFY ASSET SALES

Media Release

Shadow Transport Minister, Jackie Trad, says the LNP has announced another unfunded commitment with no guarantee it will be delivered because of the Premier’s own admission of doubts about asset sales.
“Once again the Premier has stood up and misled Queenslanders by promising a $532 million rail duplication project without being able to guarantee a single dollar of it,” Ms Trad said.
“This is yet another sign of the incompetence of the LNP when it comes to economic and financial management."
“The Premier himself has confessed that the assets he wants to include in his fire sale may not attract a buyer and if they do, they may not attract the price the LNP has artificially placed on them."
“The LNP has no ‘Plan B’ if that happens so any promise the Premier or anyone in the LNP makes simply cannot be believed."
“The Premier said before the 2012 election that he had a plan for creating jobs and extra infrastructure that didn’t rely on asset sales."
“Now all he can offer is asset sales that will blow a $2 billion-a-year ‘black hole’ in the State Budget and a very shaky promise to build a rail line but only if and when he attracts a buyer for his asset sales and if he gets the price he wants."
“The Premier should explain how he plans to fill his $2 billion ‘black hole’ and what happens when asset sales fail to meet expectations as we have already seen happen in New South Wales where power generators have been withdrawn from the market because nobody wanted to buy them,” Ms Trad said.
