Northconnex a new name, not a new project.

Anthony Albanese MP.

Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport
Shadow Minister for Tourism, Shadow Minister for Cities

Tony Abbott’s Magical Infrastructure Re-announcement Tour hit the NSW Central Coast today where he again pretended he was responsible for a project initiated by the former federal Labor Government and funded in the 2013 Budget.
Mr Abbott’s claim today that the federal Coalition had somehow initiated the Northconnex Project, which connects the F3 with the M2, does not meet the most basic fact check.
While the NSW State Government has re-named F3-M2 project Northconnex, this is not a new project.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the former federal Labor Government and the NSW Coalition Government with Transurban was signed on 4 June, 2013, after funding of $405 million from each level of government was allocated in their respective 2013 Budgets.
This was on top of more than $200 million that was allocated in the federal 2013 Budget for improvements on the F3 on the Central Coast.
Renaming an old project does not make it a new project.
The Coalition needs to fund new projects not just re-announce projects that were previously funded and are underway.

Tony Abbott did not fund a single new major infrastructure project in the 2015 Budget. In fact, the Budget cut infrastructure funding across the nation by $2 billion over the next two years.
