As PNG's Prime Minister met with the Chinese President in Bejing on
Thursday, it was revealed that Chinese radio stations have taken over
shortwave frequencies that Radio Australia once used, to broadcast into
the Asia Pacific region.
The ABC ended its shortwave broadcasts to the region last year, but there has been continued agitation to bring them back, with an Australian foreign affairs committee seeking submissions to a review of the decision.
Meanwhile in China, PNG's Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and the Chinese President Xi Jinping have pledged to expand the two countries' economic partnership.
President Xi also praised PNG for adhering to its "One China policy" - where it recognises China over Taiwan - and said his country would continue to support PNG as it hosts the APEC leaders summit later this year.
