In short:

A study has found the oldest fast radio burst yet discovered.

The mysterious, high-energy burst has been linked to a galaxy from the early universe 10 billion years ago.

What's next?

Researchers believe these far-travelled bursts may help scientists understand more about the vast cosmic web, which forms the backbone of the universe.

Long before our solar system formed, a millisecond flash of light with a huge amount of energy erupted from a galaxy far, far away.
