Premier Should Show ‘No Confidence’ In Minister Bates

Media Release.

Shadow Arts Minister Jackie Trad says the Premier should either explain why Ros Bates dismissed her Chief of Staff or sack her from Cabinet.
Ms Trad said Queenslanders lost confidence in Ms Bates a long time ago and with today’s added drama of her Chief of Staff being fired without explanation the Premier needed to step up and finally act to end this long running drama.
“The Premier also needs to answer questions about what prompted the sacking of this well regarded member of staff,” Ms Trad said.
“The Premier has referred to this sacking as Ms Bates ‘cleaning up’ her office perhaps the Premier needs to clean-up his Cabinet by getting rid of his trouble plagued Arts Minister.
“This member of staff was previously well regarded in LNP circles and was sent in as a Mr Fix-it in an attempt to end the revolving door of staff hirings and firings in Minister Stuckey’s office, and now the LNP Government has fired him.
“There are definitely questions to be answered here about what has occurred to prompt such a sudden turnaround by the LNP Government,” she said.
Ms Trad said this was the same staff member that held Ms Bates office together for nearly two months when she was on her extended leave.
“Ms Bates’ inevitable demise is becoming a long running soap opera,” Ms Trad said.
“Firing her Chief of Staff is just the latest chapter in bungles which won’t go away.
“There is obviously more to this story than the LNP Government is letting on.
“The Premier and Ms Bates have questions to answer and this drama won’t go away until they answer them,” she said.
