Resignation Of Ros Bates

 Media Release.

Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says Premier Newman should have sacked Ros Bates from his Cabinet weeks if not months ago.
“I accept the reasons given by Ros Bates for her resignation and trust her health improves,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“But Ms Bates should not have survived in Cabinet for so long after consistently demonstrating she was not up to fulfilling her responsibilities as Minister, especially in relation to the public’s demand for transparency and accountability.
“The Premier should have moved to resolve this issue a long time ago by removing Ms Bates from his Cabinet.
“Twice now the Premier’s lack of leadership has caused Ministers to take the initiative and quit when it has been obvious they do not meet his own self-proclaimed standards of behaviour and administration.
“Queenslanders demand and deserve far better,” she said.
AND …. The statement by Newman ….
Queensland Premier Campbell Newman today accepted the resignation of the Minister for Science, IT, Innovation and the Arts, Ros Bates, effective immediately.
The Premier paid tribute to Ms Bates and the contribution she has made to the portfolio.
“Ros has done an outstanding job under difficult circumstances,” Mr Newman said.
“Unfortunately the demanding role has taken a toll personally and on her health, and she had decided not to risk those issues impacting on the performance of her duties.
“I commend her for her decision. She has done the right thing by her family, her constituents, and the government.”
