Media Release.
Shadow Health
Minister, Jo-Ann Miller, says uncertainty over the future of Moura Hospital must
end.
“I understand
the government has made a decision to close hospital services at Moura, leaving
the nearest hospital at Biloela almost 70kms away,” Mrs Miller said.
“It means an
end to 24/7 emergency care at Moura and a trip that could take up to hour to
reach hospital care.
“The local
community deserves to know if this is happening and the time is long overdue for
the LNP government to tell them.
“This
situation is an indictment on the LNP government and the local MP, Deputy
Premier Jeff Seeney.
“The
uncertainty and distress already inflicted on the Moura community by this
callous LNP government must not continue any further into the new
year.
“The Minister
for Health Cuts and Closures, Lawrence Springborg, needs to make it clear what,
if any, services or jobs are to go from Moura Hospital as part of his
government’s mass sackings and savage cuts to frontline services.
“Mr
Springborg has so far chickened out on facing the people of Moura in person to
explain his government’s intentions for their hospital.
“He is too
scared to look them in the eye and tell them the truth.
“It is time
the Minister started to earn his pay packet and stopped trying to pass the buck
to the regional health board.
“He must also
stop trying to play the blame game by presenting a $600 million increase in
federal health funding to our state over the next four years as a
‘cut’.
“He is the
Minister and he has direct responsibility for the Moura Hospital, its staff
services, and its future,” Mrs Miller said.
