Shadow Health
Minister Jo-Ann Miller says Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney has proved the Newman
Government is calling the shots when it comes to cutting hospital services and
jobs such as those at Moura.
“Lawrence
Springborg has been pretending the regional health board is responsible for any
decision on the future of the Moura Hospital, but Mr Seeney has today stated
that hospital services at Moura are ‘clearly unsustainable’,” Mrs Miller
said.
“That is the
simplest and most revealing expression of the government’s position and
indicates Moura is to lose its hospital services.
“Mr Seeney
has blown Mr Springborg’s cover. While Mr Springborg as the Minister for Health
Cuts and Closures continues to pretend the regional health board is making all
the decisions on sacking frontline staff and cutting frontline services, Mr
Seeney has let the cat out of the bag.
“Mr Seeney
has outlined the government’s view that the Moura community should not have
access to its existing hospital services.
“If such a
decision were one for the regional board, why is the Deputy Premier making the
announcement?
“While Mr
Seeney has at least been more open and honest than Mr Springborg, I find it
appalling that as the local MP representing Moura the Deputy Premier should so
casually dismiss the needs of one of his local communities,” she
said.
