Media Release.
Deputy Opposition Leader, Tim Mulherin, says a letter from the Premier
shows the LNP has finally admitted to abandoning its key election promises to
deliver ongoing savings of $80 a year off all household water bills in the
state. (See PDF letter)
“The Premier is detailing his broken promises in a taxpayer-funded letter
being sent to customers of SEQ water distribution authority Queensland Urban
Utilities,” Mr Mulherin said.
“In the state election campaign the LNP promised it would implement reforms
that would be ‘saving families around $80 a year’.
“This promise was made to all households in the state but once in office
the LNP scaled that back to just households in the south-east corner.
“This was a slap in the face to regional Queenslanders and shows yet again
the LNP can’t be trusted to keep its word.
“In his latest taxpayer-funded letter the Premier now admits to SEQ
consumers that the $80 saving is a one-off.
“He has admitted to breaking his commitment to provide ongoing
savings.
“The Premier and the LNP’s original promise was clear. It was made to all
Queensland households and it was for ongoing savings, not just a one-off
cut.
“Now the Premier arrogantly uses taxpayer funds to admit he will not be
delivering on his promises.
“It is no wonder so many Queenslanders feel disappointed and double-crossed
by a party and an arrogant government that breaks its word so easily,” Mr
Mulherin said.
