LNP PLAY CATCH-UP ON VACCINATION POLICY

Health Minister Lawrence Springborg and the Newman Government are playing catch-up on vaccination policy, Shadow Health Minister Jo-Ann Miller said today.
Mrs Miller said the arrogant Newman Government used its massive majority to vote down Labor’s vaccination bill which was introduced into Parliament more than a year ago.
“We could have had legislation in place since February to ensure higher vaccination rates among children but today we’re seeing is the LNP playing catch-up, pure and simple,” Mrs Miller said.
“Labor introduced a private members bill to boost vaccination rates in May last year but the LNP arrogantly blocked it when it came to a vote."
“Now there’s a by-election on and the LNP want some pretty pictures in Stafford so they’ve decided to come out and back vaccination."
“The LNP have been playing politics with the health of Queensland children.”
Mrs Miller said today’s recycled announcement by the LNP included no new funding.
“Labor’s policy encourages parents to vaccinate their children and gives childcare centres the right to refuse to enrol children who are not fully immunised,” she said.
“It protects children and staff from dangerous and infectious diseases in a very simple and effective way but the LNP put a stop to it.”
