NO DETAIL ON NEWMAN GOVERNMENT’S NON-GONSKI DEAL

Media Release.

Opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk is calling on Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek to release details of the deal he says he has struck with the Abbott Government.
“Last week Mr Langbroek, who had repeatedly refused to sign-up to the Labor Government’s Gonski reforms and the $3.8 billion investment in Queensland schools over six years that was on offer,  declared he had secured additional funding for Queensland from Federal Education Minister Christopher Pyne."
“But as the school year draws to a close we have still to hear any details of the “no strings” deal Mr Langbroek announced. And Mr Pyne will not confirm whether a deal has been reached or release any details,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“He is refusing to answer questions on the matter and, suspiciously, Mr Langbroek has not issued any detailed information."
“If it’s true that Mr Langbroek has negotiated a “no strings” deal it means Queensland pupils will miss out on the benefits of the Better Schools initiative; it means schools with the greatest needs will not get the additional funding they need and would have got had he signed up to Gonski, and it means the Newman Government will be able to cut its contribution to school funding."
“In other words it will be a cheap deal that will leave Queensland school and pupils disadvantaged compared with the rest of the country."

“Under the Gonski proposals, every Queensland school knew exactly how much money it would receive. Under Mr Langbroek, nobody knows anything.”
