Lawrence Springborg must explain why he approves a massive waste of taxpayer funds for political propaganda campaigns but fails to adequately fund services and facilities for sick kids at the state’s new Children’s Hospital, says Shadow Health Minister, Jo-Ann Miller.
“Problems confronting sick children and their families at the new hospital are the direct responsibility of Lawrence Springborg as Health Minister,” Mrs Miller said.
“He needs to explain why he has not sorted them out when he has had almost three years to do so."
“Clearly he has preferred to waste taxpayers’ funds on political propaganda campaigns and counting the numbers for the LNP leadership instead of delivering basic services to sick kids and their families."
“Every time anyone sees or hears a government advertisement they should remember that Lawrence Springborg, Campbell Newman and the LNP have made a conscious decision to splurge public money on themselves rather than help sick kids.”
Mrs Miller said she was disturbed by reports that the LNP Government had issued memos to hospital staff directing them not to complain about conditions at the new Children’s Hospital.
“The LNP wants to muzzle staff who quite rightly want to point out the lack of food outlets and a cafeteria; the lack of wheelchair friendly shuttle buses; and no TVs in rooms for kids to watch while they spend days, weeks or even months in their hospital room."
“Instead of fixing these problems the LNP Government issues memos to staff saying do not complain in case someone hears you."
“That’s typical of this arrogant government that just looks after itself and wastes taxpayer’s money on propaganda the LNP organisation should fund, not taxpayers,” Mrs Miller said.
