OREGON SHOOTING

News overnight from Oregon has shocked and saddened us all.
Although we do not know yet the full toll of this terrible event, we know that the students at Umpqua Community College were studying, learning, reaching out to grasp a bright future.
Our thoughts are with the victims, and our deepest sympathies are with the injured, those who have lost loved ones, and with everyone touched by today’s events.
So many lives have been terribly, irrevocably, changed by this tragedy.
United States President Barack Obama has said today that thoughts and prayers are not enough to prevent tragedies like today’s shootings, and has urged changes to the United States gun laws.
Australians do not forget former Prime Minister John Howard’s courageous and successful efforts on gun control.  We must remain vigilant in defence of the laws that have protected us and saved lives.
We hope for the success of any gun control measures proposed by President Obama to help protect innocent people from harm.
