Trump's America
Posted
Opponents of Donald Trump have inflated a balloon
depicting the US President as an orange, snarling baby just outside the
British Parliament.
Mr Trump, who arrived in Britain last night,
told The Sun newspaper that planned protests against him in London and
other British cities made him feel unwelcome so he was avoiding the
capital as much as possible."I guess when they put out blimps to make me feel unwelcome, no reason for me to go to London," Mr Trump told the newspaper.
"I used to love London as a city. I haven't been there in a long time.
"But when they make you feel unwelcome, why would I stay there?"
More than 10,301 pounds ($18,427) was crowdfunded to get the 6-metre-high, orange inflatable figure up in the air — smashing the original target of $9,000.
The protesters, who describe themselves as a group of anti-fascist art activists, said at first the Mayor's office did not recognise "Trump Baby" as a legitimate protest.
But last week Sadiq Khan gave the go-ahead for the blimp to take flight during Mr Trump's visit.
It is understood that Mr Trump is currently on his way to Sandhurst where he will meet with British Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth II.
