[1] Maurice Ewing was founder and first Lamont director
(Prologue II). Symposia on geophysical topics were held at Lamont
intermittently in his honor.

[7] The climate feedback discussion in Charney’s report was largely the
work of Robert E. Dickinson, renowned atmospheric and geoscientist.
Dickinson did not seek media attention, but he was viewed by many,
including me, as a genius and top climate researcher of his era. He
generously schooled many other scientists, including Steve Schneider,
when they were both at the National Center for Atmospheric Research.
