Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says the Labor Party in Queensland fully supports the Prime Minister’s proposal to fund the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) through a small increase to the Medicare levy.
Ms Palaszczuk said the funding model had bipartisan support in Queensland.
“This is one of the most important social reforms of our generation, and it has my full support,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“It’s a small contribution from every Australian to ensure that those who suffer a significant or permanent disability have the support they need to live a better life.”
Ms Palaszczuk said that while she accepted the Premier’s support for the Prime Minister’s proposed funding model, it was time for the Queensland Government to step up and fund a trial site in partnership with the Commonwealth.
“This is a national scheme, and therefore all state and territories must be fully behind it.
“The time for political games is over. Mr Newman has to can the rhetoric and do what’s right for Queenslanders with a disability,” she said.
