Qld Opposition Welcomes Infrastructure Investment In Federal Budget

Shadow Treasurer Curtis Pitt has welcomed a massive boost to infrastructure funding in Queensland in tonight’s Federal budget.
Projects funded include:

• Cross River Rail ($715 million)
• Gateway Upgrade North ($718 million)
• Ipswich Motorway ($279 million)
• Bruce Highway ($4.1 billion)
• Warrego Highway ($317.5 million)

“These projects will create jobs, boost our state’s economic capacity and drive regional economies that have been struggling under the LNP’s cuts,” Mr Pitt said.
“Unfortunately we’ve seen the LNP turn off the tap when it comes to infrastructure investment in this state, which means less jobs and less economic activity in the regions."
“Queensland’s infrastructure revolution started under the former state Labor Government and is continuing under this Federal Labor Government."
“I congratulate Wayne Swan and Anthony Albanese on making infrastructure investment a priority in what are challenging budget conditions.”
Mr Pitt called on the state LNP Government to work constructively with Minister Albanese to get projects like Cross River Rail and the Gateway North Upgrade up and running.
“It’s a crucial project that will only become a reality if there’s a strong partnership between the state and federal government."
“Likewise, anyone who’s driven the Gateway Motorway north from Nudgee knows how urgently that road needs an upgrade."
“We’ve already seen plenty of political argy-bargy from Minister Emerson. I’d call on the LNP to quit the political games and work closely with the Federal government to make these projects happen.”
