Premier Must Act, Not Divert Attention

Media Release.

Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk says dumping Dr Bruce Flegg from the LNP would be yet another attempt by the Premier to divert attention from the scandal engulfing his government sparked by efforts to find him a seat at the last election.
“Instead of trying to give the impression of taking action by dumping Dr Flegg from the LNP for taping conversations, the Premier should be answering the serious questions raised by what’s on the tapes,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“At this stage his focus should not be on attacking Dr Flegg but on revealing the truth about the potentially illegal activities of LNP powerbrokers."
“Queenslanders could be forgiven for thinking the dumping of Dr Flegg would finally open the way for the Premier to jump from Ashgrove to the safer seat of Moggill at the next election."
“Is that the Premier’s prime concern even in the face of the questions raised by the tapes?"
“Just as he dismissed those pursuing the Driscoll scandal as being on ‘an Easter egg hunt’, the Premier is showing no appreciation of the seriousness of the allegations raised in the Flegg tapes."
“Just like the Driscoll case the Premier makes no attempt to uncover the facts surrounding the Flegg tapes, preferring to dismiss as ‘old news’ the fresh information contained in the taped conversations."
“The Premier is yet to answer under oath if he had any knowledge of the alleged plans to provide Dr Flegg with a highly paid overseas trade post in return for him vacating his seat at the 2012 election."
“If Mr Newman has nothing to hide, he will show leadership and be the first witness to provide testimony as part of the new investigation."
“The Premier does nothing even though the fresh information in the recorded conversations raise the spectres of perjury and bribery."
“The Premier promised higher standards of behaviour in government but after more than a year in office we are yet to see him enforce them,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
