In short

NASA will build a base on the moon instead of a space station orbiting it.

The Lunar Gateway station was mostly built, so its components will be repurposed for the base on the moon.

What's next?

It leaves an uncertain future for NASA partners Japan, Canada and the European Space Agency that agreed to supply the station's components.
