Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand believes Australia ready to become chess country.

Five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand says he believes Australia could be on the verge of becoming a proud chess nation. 

The Indian grandmaster visited Sydney this week and said he was "amazed" by the engagement school children had in the sport. 

Anand, who is vice president of FIDE, believes Australia could also be a future host of the franchise-based Global Chess League.
