ABBOTT'S ATTACK ON AUSTRALIAN FAMILIES

Acceptance of the recommendations of Tony Abbott’s Commission of Audit would represent a full-scale attack on Australian families and their standard of living.
As usual with this government, low and middle income earners will be hit the hardest.

Reductions in family tax benefits alone would leave a family with two children aged 4 and 6 years, on an income of $80,000 per year, worse off by almost $5,000 each year.

A single parent family with two children on $50,000 a year will have its payments reduced by almost the same. These cuts are going to hurt.

Add to that proposals for a new deceit tax, a new GP tax and a new hospitals tax and Australian families have much to fear from the upcoming budget.
Labor understands that Budgets involve tough choices. And in government, Labor took tough choices. But they were responsible choices, such as means testing the Private Health Insurance Rebate and abolishing the Baby Bonus.

By contrast, this government has concocted a budget emergency as cover for a dramatic agenda of cuts and austerity that will hurt Australian families.
Tony Abbott is making the wrong choices for Australian families, and for Australia.

Tony Abbott’s priorities are completely twisted.
