Federal Member for Ballarat, Catherine King said tonight the Leader of the Opposition outlined a positive plan for Australia’s future.
“Bill Shorten has outlined an alternative plan for Australia’s future, a
positive plan that extends opportunity for all Australians,” Ms King
said.
“Tony Abbott wants to tear down everything Australians have built
together through higher taxes and removing support for those that need
it most.
“Labor created Medicare because we understand that universal healthcare
is a cornerstone of our social safety net and central to the commitment
we have for each other's health and welfare.
“Labor won’t let Tony Abbott destroy Medicare. We will vote against Tony Abbott’s plan to tax people when they visit the GP.
“Labor recognises that our pensioners and carers make our community
great through a lifetime of work and support for their families and the
people around them, and they deserve to get the support they need.
“Labor knows that in order for economy to grow we need to support our
children to get the best start in life with a quality education, all the
way from pre-school to university.
“Labor understands that family budgets are stretched and an increase to
the fuel excise and cuts to family payments will add costs that they
just can’t afford.
“Tony Abbott doesn’t seem to understand the basic principles that have
made Australia a country of opportunity and the fair go. The principles
that Labor will always fight for.”
