LNP RELIES ON FEDERAL LABOR FOR ‘GOOD NEWS’

Media Release

Improvements in hospital performance in Queensland have relied on funding from the former federal Labor Government that is now being cut by the Abbott LNP Government, says Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk.
“The former federal Labor Government established the $3.4 billion National Partnership Agreement on Improving Public Hospital Services running between 2009-10 to 2016-17,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“Under that agreement Queensland was to receive a potential $675.7 million in federal funds to improve public hospital services over and above regular health grants."
“This included ‘reward’ funding for achieving specific targets to lower wait times for elective surgery and emergency department access."
“The improvements we are now seeing have been achieved by the hard work of the clinical staff involved and the federal funding provided by the former Labor Government."
“Tony Abbott is now reneging on that agreement which states like Queensland have been relying on to improve hospital performance."
“While the Newman Government has been sacking health staff and forcing Hospital and Health Services to run at a profit, the Premier and Health Minister have relied on a federal Labor program to claim results that are not their own."
“They now need to explain what steps they will take in the wake of this massive breach of trust and broken promise by their federal LNP colleagues."

“Queenslanders already face the prospect of an Americanised hospital system under the Newman Government and that will only get worse if this type of extra federal funding dries up,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
