Newman backs down on rushed Master Plan: Trad

Media Release

Shadow Arts Minister and Member for South Brisbane Jackie Trad has welcomed the LNP’s decision to extend the consultation process for the Cultural Precinct Master Plan.
“Our local community has strongly voiced its disapproval of the rushed nature of this process and I’m pleased that the LNP has finally bothered to listen,” Ms Trad said.
“Southbank is the state’s cultural epicentre. Any plans to completely redevelop this site should not be rushed."
“We have been saying very loudly that the community deserves more time to take part in the consultation process, so it’s refreshing to see that the Government’s listened.”
Ms Trad said locals and art-lovers alike had raised many points with her about the Plan’s impact on the local community.
“There are some good features in the Government’s plan, but our local community won’t cop the approval of 30-storey towers above QPAC and the Queensland Museum, and there are also grave concerns about the design of the Riverbank."
“As always with the LNP, there are also serious questions to be asked about how this development will be funded."
“There needs to be complete transparency once the Government reaches the ‘tender’ stage, and at this point they haven’t given that assurance."

“I would urge all members of the local community, as well as Queenslanders who care about the Arts and those who care about the future of the Southbank precinct to contact the Minister for the Arts and make your concerns known.”
