A family of ducks spotted waddling over Brisbane's
busy Gateway Motorway during peak hour has received a personal police
escort to safety.
Traffic cameras captured vision of the six
ducklings and their mother making the long trip over the southbound Sir
Leo Hielscher Bridge about 7:30am on Wednesday. An incident response crew and a police motorcyclist kept traffic out of the two left lanes, where the ducks were, to ensure their safe passage.
Footage released from the helmet-cam of the police motorcyclist showed the great difficulty in managing seven wayward ducks on a busy motorway.
"You stay together, buddies," he can be overheard saying.A firefighter crew eventually came to the rescue, and together they were able to corner and capture the ducks using blankets.
A few had to be chased down individually.
The ducks were eventually taken to RSPCA for assessment.
More than 116,000 vehicles use the Gateway Motorway bridges daily.
