Ducks caught on traffic camera waddling over Brisbane motorway get police escort to safety

Updated yesterday at 5:22pm

A family of ducks spotted waddling over Brisbane's busy Gateway Motorway during peak hour has received a personal police escort to safety.
Traffic cameras captured vision of the six ducklings and their mother making the long trip over the southbound Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge about 7:30am on Wednesday.
An incident response crew and a police motorcyclist kept traffic out of the two left lanes, where the ducks were, to ensure their safe passage.

Footage released from the helmet-cam of the police motorcyclist showed the great difficulty in managing seven wayward ducks on a busy motorway.
"You stay together, buddies," he can be overheard saying.
A firefighter crew eventually came to the rescue, and together they were able to corner and capture the ducks using blankets.
A few had to be chased down individually.
The ducks were eventually taken to RSPCA for assessment.
More than 116,000 vehicles use the Gateway Motorway bridges daily.
