President Jimmy Carter asked the U.S. National Academy of Sciences “To
summarize in concise and objective terms our best present understanding
of the carbon dioxide/climate issue for the benefit of policymakers.”
Jule Charney focused the Academy study on the fundamental question of
climate sensitivity, producing a brief, brilliant report that still
provides guidance to climate research today.
Charney’s focus opened a research pathway for our little group in New
York, alternative to the Farmers’ Forecast. Charney even put in a word
for us with Phil Abelson, editor of Science.
Charney bears no blame for our original sin or for the Inspector General’s interest in GISS.

Here are drafts of Chapters 17 & 18 of Sophie’s Planet for fact checking.
Thanks to those who informed me of Eunice Foote, whose climate research
escaped my notice. Later this week I will send out the revised Chapter
15, which includes a page on Eunice Foote.
I recently opened a Twitter account @DrJamesEHansen (https://twitter.com/drjamesehansen).
