Hunter Jobs Alliance

Have you heard about last week's launch of the Hunter Jobs Alliance?

LEAN is proud and excited by this new coalition of unions and community groups committed to ensuring the impacts of a changing global energy market are not unfairly carried by the communities of the Hunter.

For over 12 months LEAN has worked with the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU), and last week 9 unions and 4 local Hunter community environment groups met in Maitland to create the Hunter Jobs Alliance.

Read about the back story in the Sydney Morning Herald here.

Today former ACTU Secretary Bill Kelty said Labor needs to do two things - stay the course on ambitious climate action AND ensure communities and their workers are provided a good adjustment process.

LEAN agrees with Bill Kelty 100%.

Leaving the changes ahead to the market will not provide these communities - that have powered our nation and prosperity over generations - with a good future and good work.

Over coming months the Hunter Jobs Alliance intends to campaign across the Hunter, advocating for and promoting alternative industries and ensuring new investment creates good, long term jobs - serving the interests of workers and communities.
